An energised, hands-on couple sought big ideas on a small budget for alterations to an existing holiday home. We focused on improving the environmental performance, planning and materiality, while adapting the building to suit the client’s modern aesthetic.

Removing the existing ionic ‘feature’ columns, we inserted a new deck, improved and enlarged glazing, a new kitchen and upgraded materiality and finishes. We adjusted the layout for improved functionality, incorporating an additional bedroom and ensuite within the existing footprint for a cost effective design that had a big impact, opening up to the magnificent view and the outdoors.

Environmental Strategies
- Optimised layout by inserting new bedroom storage and ensuite within the existing footprint
- Replaced existing dated glazing with new high performance low-e glazing
- Reduced the clients brief by being strategic regarding what is retained and what is replaced. This allowed the clients to focus on quality over quantity (budget and environmentally friendly approach, as this significantly reduced demolition and waste).
