Catherine Hill Bay is a State Heritage listed, coastal coal-mining township in NSW. Largely in tact, the unique town is typified by small weatherboard miner’s cottages. Our site is a former shop dating from 1890.

We are restoring the street facade in order to contribute to the heritage significance of the town and area. A new rear garage workshop is under construction and required extensive consultation with the Office of Environment and Heritage NSW, Lake Macquarie City Council, and input from Heritage Consultants.

Numerous consultations demonstrated our willingness to work collaboratively to determine the most suitable outcome within a culturally, socially and environmentally sensitive area.

Environmental Strategies
- Existing dwelling retained and untouched, except for heritage restoration
- New rear workshop constructed to meeting dwelling standards, including insulation, glazing specification
- Extended eaves provide rain and sun protection in an area that can receive strong coastal weather systems
- Low water use soft landscaping proposed
